OUR GOAL IS TO PARTNER WITH PATIENTS IN THEIR PURSUIT OF OPTIMAL ORAL HEALTH

THROUGH DIAGNOSIS, EDUCATION, TREATMENT, AND PREVENTION.

A big, big thank you!

We want to thank you for choosing O’Shea Dentistry for your oral health. We would like to give you a bit of information on what to expect during your first visit with us. We call it the “New Patient Experience” because it is more than just an average dental appointment, it is the start of our partnership in health with you. Here at O’Shea Dentistry, we want to thoroughly evaluate not only your teeth and oral tissues but your overall health. The health and structure of your oral cavity are directly linked to conditions such as sleep apnea and sleep-disordered breathing, heart disease and stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, preterm birth, and other inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.

What to expect on your first visit

The O’Shea Dentistry New Patient Experience builds a solid foundation for achieving optimal dental and overall health. You can expect to spend 2 hours with us while we gather valuable information. The primary objective is to address your chief concern.

Whether that may be: Tooth and Gum Health

  • Esthetics

  • Function

  • Airway Health or Sleep Concerns

  • Or, simply continuing your regular preventative care

We utilize several diagnostic tools during your new patient exam, which include:

-A review of your medical and dental history

--Let us know your health history and any medications you take. We can help you make the oral-systemic connection and let you know of any oral implications your medications may have.

-Extraoral and Intraoral Photographs

--These let you see what we see and help us educate you. ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

-Necessary X-Rays

--We typically start with a complete set of radiographs to evaluate bone levels and diagnose decay and pathology. The provider will determine these upon evaluating your medical history and your individual treatment goals.

Your provider will recommend any of these necessary radiographs. ➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜

-Full Periodontal Charting

--Using an instrument called a probe, we measure the space between your tooth and gum. Regular preventative cleanings are to prevent gum inflammation and disease. If bleeding, bone loss, or significant plaque and tartar are present, some form of periodontal therapy will be recommended to you.

-Oral Cancer Screening

-Itero Scan

--This is a digital 3D model of your teeth and helps us educate you on tooth position, biting pressures, and even lets you see a simulation of how aligner therapy may be beneficial to you. ➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜➜

-Comprehensive Exam

--One of our doctors will discuss our findings and your concerns with you and make recommendations to help you achieve your optimal health and reach your treatment goals.

-Preventative Routine Cleaning

--If periodontal therapy is recommended, a separate appointment will likely be scheduled
